In the decisive match, Barty beat American Danielle Collins in straight sets.
“Incredible feeling. We Australians are extremely lucky to have a Grand Slam. Playing at home is something special, but becoming a home Slam champion is even more beautiful.
On the court, I couldn’t believe I had done it. I didn’t even know what to do or what to feel, I just gave vent to my emotions. Unusually for me, but to celebrate with everyone who was in the stands is an incredible energy. I think it’s incredible to feel how much work the team and I have done “behind the scenes” over the past few years to achieve this. All these emotions came out in one moment, a very special moment.”
About winning Slams on all surfaces
“I feel very modest in the chosen company of those who succeeded. I’m not even sure that I deserve a place among these great champions of our sport. I am still learning and trying to improve every day.
It’s great to win Helmets on all types of surfaces and be consistent. From a young age, becoming a solid player and playing equally well on all surfaces has been my main challenge. I never thought that I could win majors on different surfaces. I am very pleased and consider it a privilege that I succeeded.”
